Maggie is the UKs leading Personal Trainer and Nutrition Adviser for Teenage Girls. That sounds like a pretty big claim but Maggie specialises in fitness for Teenage Girls and as far as she knows she's the only trainer in the UK currently doing that!
Being the only one isn't a reason to call yourself the best though so lets explain a little more about Maggie and how she's come to be in this position.
Maggie qualified as a Personal Trainer in 2006 as a young mother. During her teenage years Maggie represented the country in sailing. She achieved substantial success in both the youth 420 class and the Olympic 470 class. Maggie puts much of this success down to the support, encouragement, and guidance she received as a teenage girl.
She wasn't very sporty, I know that sounds like a contradiction but it's true, Maggie hated PE at school. Netball was boring, as one of the tallest in the year she was always selected to be goal keeper. Hockey was boring, the action always seemed to be somewhere else on the field. Maggie found tennis impossible, her poor hand eye co-ordination meant the ball and racket rarely met! Athletics was a complete mystery and she always volunteered to run the 100m dash as it was over in the shortest possible time. All in all, school PE lessons were a pretty miserable part of every week and like many teenage girls Maggie tried everything she could to get out of them as much as possible.
The difference was that Maggie kept on trying sport, after sport, after sport knowing that in the end she would find one she enjoyed and excelled at. For Maggie that sport was sailing and she is still a keen sailor now. The only woman in the country actively racing the RS100 dinghy.
Being active in a way that suits you and having a healthy diet are central to a teenage girl's well being.
Maggie has a goal to Get Every Teen Girl Active. She started working with teenage girls in January 2009 through a local youth group and has since run several 12 week Girls Fitness Bootcamps for teenage girls looking to complete their Duke of Edinburgh Awards and 12 week Wellness Courses where Maggie's fitness and nutrition sessions are combined with a group meal and massage, cookery and other activities chosen by the girls.
Through these sessions Maggie has seen that as they become more active teenage girls feel more capable of doing other things, when they feel more capable they have more confidence and self-esteem. Ultimately they feel more able to deal with what life throws at them.
Working with small groups, up to 12 people, Maggie is able to give all the girls personal attention, support and motivation as they try a range of fun activities. Sessions are often game based and large inflatable balls, hula hoops, boxing gloves, skipping ropes, parachutes etc add variety and interest.
Maggie also offers Personal Training for teenage girls. Clients are usually either struggling with their weight and have tried everything - Maggie's unique approach is proven to help shift even the toughest fat. Alternatively they are teenage athletes looking for that additional 10% to help them win in their chosen sport.
